Paul is a McDonald's All-American in high school. He joined Wake Forest University for 2 years of university basketball where he assisted the Demon Deacons accomplish their 1st truly number one ranking. He had been picked 4th total in the 2005 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets and traded to the Clippers in 2011.
On December 8, 2011, the Hornets agreed to a three-team trade transferring Paul on the L . A . Lakers. A NBA, who owned the team during the time, nullified the deal, with commissioner David Stern claiming New Orleans are the best off keeping Paul.The clubs involved on the trade tried out to lobby the league to reverse its ruling and reconstruct the offer does not help.On December 12, the Hornets approved a trade sending Paul into the Los Angeles Clippers, but the deal broke down once the NBA added further demands for the original terms. 2 days later, the teams finally made the trade, transferring Paul and two future 2nd stage draft picks for the Clippers for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, and also Minnesota Timberwolves' unprotected first round pick inside the 2012 draft. After the deal's completion, Paul declared that he could opt in the final season of his agreement and stay on Los Angeles for about two more seasons.
